Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority
Captain Ghulam Jailani Wafa was born on 1342 Hejri in an intellectual family at Golestan District of Farah province. His father was an enlightened and influential tribal figure who headed a district’s middle school.
Captain Wafa completed his primary and secondary education at the Mullah Mohammad Farahi and Sayeed Sano Schools of Farah. In 1356 Hejri, he was granted a scholarship to continue his higher education at the Institute of Oil and Gas Technology, Mazar-e- Sharif, Afghanistan.
In 1981, Mr. Wafa graduated from the department of geology as a semi-engineer /Geologists. As he had much interest on aeronautics and navigations, participated on open competition, which was for piloting training abroad the country.He studied his higher education on aeronautics and pilotage at Frunze Military former Kyrgyzstan-Soviet Union. After his graduation in1984, he joined Afghan Air Force.
Based on his experience and knowledge, in due course, he served as aviator trainer, Commander of regiment, chief of Air Force of Afghanistan National Army.
From 2001 to 2007, he worked with United Nations Assistance Missions for Afghanistan (UNAMA), Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). From 2007 to 2016 as an international employee, he worked in the United Nations Civil Aviation Division in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Morocco; conducted air operation and management to ensure safe and secure UN flights in the region.
From 2016 onward, he worked with Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA) as the Director of Air Traffic Management. As per his outstanding knowledge and remarkable experience in aviation sector, Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority nominated him as the Deputy for Operations of the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority, to the Honorable President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Captain Wafa was appointed by decree No. 411 dated 1396/8/25 by His Excellency President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
